Residential Energy Auditing
Drops & Watts (D&W) provides thorough energy audits for those interested in reducing their utility bills.

A D&W Home Energy Audit answers the question, - how can I lower my utility bills? - by providing a blueprint for increasing the energy efficiency of the home. As part of the inspections, current utility usage is evaluated and recommendations are made to help homeowners easily reduce their use of utilities. This is accomplished through the following steps.

Scheduling
If you’re interested in having D&W perform a residential inspection on your home call 352-562-4510 to schedule an appointment. Inspections can take from 90 to 120 minutes and can only be performed when someone is home. There is currently a one to two week lead time to schedule an audit.

Interview
Every audit begins with an interview and counseling session. A D&W Certified Energy Auditor will ask a series of questions regarding electric and water use in the house and review the resident’s utility bills. This will help to identify priorities and other potential savings.

The Inspection
After the interview, the D&W Certified Energy Auditor will examine, and evaluate the factors that affect energy use in the home. Every audit begins with the outside of the property and includes outside water fixtures, condition of heating and cooling systems, pool pumps, and other equipment. Inside, the auditor will look at windows, doors, lights, appliances, insulation, and ducts. In other words the service includes a detailed analysis of base-load and seasonal-load, which assure a full and integral approach.

Following the inspection, the D&W consultant will sit down with the client to review results. Comparisons between items noted during the inspection, and the utility bill will be pointed out. The auditor will also identify any major problems requiring immediate attention and suggest specific actions to address those priorities.

Reporting
    D&W reports include:
  • Energy and water use analysis
  • Priority Targets: Identify any major problem that requires immediate action.
  • Suggested Energy Management Measures.
  • Energy Conservation Opportunities: areas where the homeowner is likely to see the most significant results.
  • Major Components: Provides recommendations about HVAC, Windows, Insulation, and Appliances. Potential rebate information for suggested modifications.
  • Schedule of detailed costs. Costs are presented both as contractor prices and do-it-yourself prices.
  • Projected savings calculated based on the cost of recommended changes. This is separated into the following categories: electricity, gas, water, and wastewater; and allows the homeowner to see the payback period and continued savings for making these changes.
